Early Years

At Arnett Hills JMI School we believe in getting it right from the very start. The Early Years of a child’s education are the most important and lay the foundations for the rest of their education. We do not have a school nursery, but work closely with our local nurseries and pre-school providers. Transition is important to us. Our Reception children follow The Early Years Foundation Stage, using a curriculum that is tailored to meet their needs and interests.

They have a large indoor and outdoor environment, with an extensive garden that they enjoy all year around.

“Children in the early years rapidly develop their knowledge and skills.”

“From the early years, children build strong foundations in areas that prepare them effectively for learning in key stage 1.”

“In the early years staff expertly develop children’s language and communication through play.”

(Ofsted April 2025)

We strongly believe that children are entitled to their full year in Early Years and ensure that they receive this. When children transition to Year 1, it is the role of the Year 1 teacher to begin the transition to National Curriculum, whilst gradually reducing the amount of child initiated learning time.
